Xavier Labandeira is Professor of Economics at the University of Vigo, Spain, and member of the Rede, a consolidated research group that deals with the main economic aspects of innovation, energy and the environment. After completing his graduate studies at University College London, his European doctorate focused on the use of energy regulations to tackle environmental problems. Xavier Labandeira’s research addresses the boundaries between public, energy and environmental economics while seeking to respond to relevant social issues. He has published in the main international journals of his field, has led several research funded-projects, with numerous research stays and visits in universities across the world. He is now lead author of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the elaboration of its fifth assessment report, which is due to be published in 2014. At offers classes in public and environmental economics and coordinates the Master’s degree on Management of Sustainable Development at the University of Vigo.
Xavier Labandeira is also the Director of Economics for Energy, a private research center that specializes in the analysis of energy issues. The center’s aim is to create and transmit rigorous, neutral and useful knowledge to the different agents of Spanish society.
