Report on renewable energy supply in Europe addressing technological and political preconditions

The ENTRACTE research project is aiming to analyse the European climate policy portfolio with special emphasis on the role of interactions between its different parts. The project’s ultimate goal is to provide pragmatic guidance to policy makers for designing effective, cost efficient and politically and legally feasible climate policy portfolios.

The prospect of renewable energy in Europe depends on climate policy as well as other technological and political preconditions. This report examines the role of renewable energy if either nuclear power is phased out in Europe or a strict renewable target is imposed in addition to greenhouse gas emissions targets.
